Located in the south of Miaoli County, Dahu Township is bordered by Shitan Township to the north; by Gongguan Township, Tongluo Township, and Sanyi Township to the west; by Zhuolan Township to the south; and by Tai'an Township to the east. It experiences warm weather much of the time with a lot of rainfall. The entire area of the township is shaped like a short barrel boot, Manapang Mountain is at the heel part, and the downstream of Liyutan Reservoir and rockfill dam is at the part of the toe box.
The industries in Dahu are mostly small- and medium-sized types of agricultural businesses; forest-based processing, silk-weaving, ceramic, and food-processing industries; and other industries, such as metal manufacturing, mechanical facilities, electronics, miscellaneous, etc.
Dahu is the main production area of strawberries in Taiwan. Dahu strawberries have brought not only fortune but also the form of the tourism fruit farm that has become a model of leisure agriculture. There are other famous fruits grown here, including citrus fruits, sweet persimmons, and Kosui pears, Shinko pears, Housi pears (that are commonly known as Dahu Zun pears), red-flesh jujubes, and oriental plums.
Most township residents are from Hakka family, and there is quite a prosperous trend of writing lyrics and melody composition for Hakka mountain songs; for example, Tu Min-heng, Wu Cheng-chih, Wu Chien-hung, etc., are Taiwan’s famous lyricists, composers, and singers of Hakka songs.
