The "Have a Miaoli Slow Fish Date" event will take place on April 28 (Sunday), Shaping the Charming Coastal Culture of Miaoli

The Miaoli County Government will hold the "Have a Miaoli Slow Fish Date" event at Longfeng Fishing Port in Zhunan on April 28 (Sunday). Through the three main themes of "Traditional Fishing Methods," "Slow Fish Exploration," and "Marine Recreation," the event aims to give the public a glimpse into the diverse aspects of the ocean. Everyone is invited to "experience the beauty of Miaoli's slow fish and enjoy a wonderful mountain and sea life together."

Miaoli's coastline is mostly sandy, and fishermen traditionally used beach seines to catch fish, a method known as "khan-koo" (Taiwanese Beach Seine). However, over time, the labor-intensive nature of "khan-koo" has gradually diminished. Only a few areas in Taiwan still retain this ancient fishing wisdom. This event combines traditional skills with tourism experiences through the "khan-koo fishing" activity, allowing both adults and children to work together with the sea, pulling the fishing net ashore. Participants can experience the joy of a bountiful catch, appreciating the hard work of our ancestors, and perpetuating traditional skills. The "khan-koo fishing" activity is limited to 300 participants; registration includes commemorative souvenirs and local fishing village snacks.

A marine waste art creative painting competition will be held on the same day with the theme of "Marine Environmental Ecology." Families are welcome to unleash their imagination and creativity, transforming marine waste into unique artwork. The competition will be time-limited, and the top prize includes an interactive teaching aid for the ancient wisdom stone fish weir fishing method developed by Miaoli Slow Fish and local specialty souvenirs. There are 20 slots available. Families are welcome to sign up and have fun together!

A "Bike Tour – Harbor Community Exploration" will also be offered on the day, limited to 40 visitors. Led by Slow Fish guides, participants will visit the fishing port, learn about the fish auction market, and experience bidding for fresh fish, allowing people to understand the source-to-table process and learn about "understanding fish, knowing fish, learning to eat fish, and being able to talk about fish." Participants can also ride bicycles on the Green Light Sea Breeze Bikeways, and experience precious coastal forests along the Miaoli coastline from Longfeng Fishing Port in the north to Zhonggang Riverbank in the south. This route covers the Family Forest and Holiday Forest trails. Visitors will also have the opportunity to visit the Purple Crow Butterfly Ecology Classroom in Zhunan Town to learn about the ecological characteristics of the Zhunan Sea Line.

The Director of the Culture and Tourism Bureau, Lin Yen-fu, stated that the county government has specially planned a variety of experiential activities for people to sign up to in advance, such as the khan-koo fishing experience, bike tours, and Marine Waste Art Creative Painting Competition. The event will also feature a Slow Fish Market, fish auction show, slow fish knowledge sharing session, marine recreation experience, and interactive games, allowing families to learn about the ocean and our environment. Families are welcome to join in on the activities on April 28, get to know Miaoli Slow Fish, and build knowledge of sustainable oceans. Visitors must register for the events in advance.
