Through this dramatization, the historical memory between the land and the people will be connected again, and the audience will have a deeper understanding of the world-class cultural asset of mining.

After the field study and rehearsal of EX-Theatre Asia for more than six months, the premiere of Oil Well No. 106 has aroused considerable attention. The tickets for the performance can be requested at the service counter of the Culture and Tourism Bureau, Miaoli County Government, starting from 9AM on June 5. Citizens can request tickets with their ID. Each person can request at most two tickets, and the number of tickets is limited.

This morning, the Culture and Tourism Bureau held a press conference to promote the event at the hall of the county government building. EX-Theatre Asia performed some classic scenes. The stories of Chuyun Historic Trail, old grocery store, gondola wedding, and “oil people” vividly portray the historical context and cultural background of Huangkeng and recommend scenic attractions for a historical walk.

The historical revitalization of the mining industry of Chuhuangkeng and the Hakka literary park under construction across the river will be international tourist attractions in the future. Magistrate Hsu Yao-chang, legislators Lai Xiang-ling and Xu Zhi-rong, CEO of the Exploration and Production Business Division, CPC Corporation, Zhang Min, County Counsel Speaker Chung Tung-Chin, several county counselors, Gongguan Township Mayor Zheng Mei-lu, Tongluo Township Mayor Xie Chang-nian, and Miaoli City Mayor Qiu Zheng all attended the press conference to provide their full support.

In recent years, the county government has been dedicated to revitalizing Chuhuangkeng and has actively strived for the forward-looking project of revitalizing historic scenes subsidized by the Ministry of Culture. In addition to renovating and reusing the historic buildings, we are also working hard to promote cultural innovation. This time, the county government and CPC Corporation have joined hands with EX-Theatre Asia to present the brand new play, Oil Well No. 106, in the hopes of inviting the public to revisit historic sites and explore them through drama.

Magistrate Hsu Yao-chang points out that the premiere of Oil Well No. 106 has been specially arranged to take place at the plaza in front of Taiwan Oil Field Exhibition Hall so that the audience will not only personally experience the nostalgic atmosphere of the historic site, that is, the busy working place of the oil people in the past, but also be reminded of the shared feelings through the plot. In this way, a completely different intellectual and emotional cultural experience of the Huangkeng mines will be recreated.

The attendees also suggested that Oil Well No. 106 be performed in the future at the county’s junior high and elementary schools so that more people will become acquainted with the development history of the mining industry in Taiwan. As for the operation project of Chuhuangkeng Gondola that is concerning local citizens, the CEO of Exploration and Production Business Division, CPC Corporation, Zhang Min, said he would work hard to ask for the approval of the board of directors for a feasibility assessment. We welcome all to visit Taiwan Oil Field Exhibition Hall and other facilities on the day of the performance.
