Artist, Roy Chang, will host the wood-fired pottery exhibition, “A Thought Crossed My Mind: The Encounter of Black Velvet and White Pearl”, at Zhong Xing Gallery on the second floor of the Culture and Tourism Bureau in Miaoli County Government. All are welcome to visit the exhibition.

By the title, “The Encounter of Black Velvet and White Pearl”, the pottery exhibition displays the extreme beauty of black and white wood-fired pottery. “The works of Black Velvet” have their own textures that are rich in the layer by layer creases and a matte black glaze with a shade of silver. With the scattered falling ashes, some bowl rims possess gold-plated nobility while looking fascinating and mysterious. The “Pearl” pieces from both the hand-building and pottery wheel collections are like crystal-clear pearls that are elegant, pure, noble, and touches the heart while pleasing the eyes.

For the past thirty years, Mr. Roy Chang has used a kiln to make the glaze-fired and wood-fired pieces. During his work, he has to consider many details such as the amount of dipping and the thickness of the glaze at the start of the creation, whether the works should be placed on the front or back of the pieces and at the start or end of the fire when placing them into the kiln, whether hard or soft wood should be used and how much should be used in the kiln, and the appropriate time for oxidation and reduction. Every procedure depends on “a thought crossing his mind”, which gives every piece the pottery style of the different series.
