Ginger Garden is located in a farm village in the mountain area beside Provincial Highway No.3, Dahu Township, Miaoli County. Despite the inconvenient traffic in the mountain area, with the assistance of Miaoli County Government, Ginger Garden utilizes software and hardware to promote leisure agriculture, dishes made with local ingredients, food and agricultural education. All of this enables Ginger Garden to maintain its excellent performance at various competitions and assessments, including being selected as one of the Top Ten Rural Villages, receiving the excellence award in the leisure agriculture area for six consecutive years, and being granted the excellence award and golden medal in the leisure agriculture area assessment in 2018. It can be regarded as a role model in Taiwan.

TU, YU-CHENG is the new chairman of Ginger Garden Leisure Agriculture Area. Before leaving school, he decided to stay in his hometown, not only helping his family and learning about farm work but also learning how to cook outside to do his share of work together with his parents. Building on the efforts of previous generations, Ginger Garden has transformed from a traditional farm into a tourist farm, offering catering and diversified services and at the same time cooperating with the government to help residents in building consensus and drive the industry transformation. Under the creativity of the young farmers in Ginger Garden, the local agricultural produce is made into secondary processed products, and a variety of DIY experience activities will be developed to provide visitors to Ginger Garden with a different and fresh experience each time.

To strike a balance between tourism and industrial development and ecological conservation, TU, YU-CHENG and the independent farmers in the district have formed an experimental team for the purpose of introducing eco-friendly concepts to the process of growing “ginger,” the local specialty industry by reducing pesticides, fertilizers, and land development. At the same time, the team has also developed bagging ginger experience activities to offer guided tours related to food and agricultural education and ecological education. Through the “non-toxic bag ginger,” the leading group of farmers will show larger scale farmers how to make the brand “bag ginger” into safe agriculture.

With the classic heritage from the roots of old ginger to the grateful young ginger, the members of Ginger Garden have built a sustainable environment. Under the leadership of TU, YU-CHENG, the friendly seeds of the farm village gradually prosper. In terms of production, farmers are guided to promote friendly farming together. In terms of ecology, Ginger Garden cooperates with the Wild Bird Society of Changhua and The Society of Wilderness in the areas of biological inventory and monitoring, preservation and learning about symbiosis. In terms of living environment and public affairs, through the independent operation of the association, the people from the local, middle and old-aged, and disadvantaged families are hired to encourage the participation by local residents and to pass on Ginger Garden’s experiences for generations to come.
