The Tongluo Township Office will hold the 2023 Taro in Tongluo Township Industrial and Cultural Event at the Zhongping Assembly House on November 18. The planned activities for the event include a one-day tour, taro ball DIY, taro food tasting, taro picking, and the distribution of food coupons. Additionally, there’ll be an exciting lucky draw with a chance to win gold. Magistrate Chung Tung-chin warmly invites the public to participate in the event, taste delicious taro-based dishes, and behold the beauty of the Chrysanthemum floral sea.

The taro planting area in Tongluo Township covers approx. 52.6 hectares, with Zhongping Village serving as the primary production area. The taro products from this region are known for their excellent quality and soft, creamy texture. To promote this agricultural specialty of Tongluo Township, the Mayor of Tongluo Township, Xie Chang-nian has persevered to obtain a subsidy from the Miaoli County Government to hold the Taro in Tongluo Township Industrial and Cultural Event for the past three years. This event has also gradually become an annual local tradition.

The theme for the 2023 Taro in Tongluo Township Industrial and Cultural Event is “Meet You in Tongluo Taroship”. The event will be held at Zhongping Assembly House on November 18.

At the press conference held in the county government hall today, Xie Changnian, the Mayor of Tongluo Township, presented the event details. Ye Dong-wei, the President of the Tongluo Township Farmers' Association, along with the Executive Supervisor Qiu Qi-wu and the Chief of Staff Zeng Yi-xiao, aka the “three moguls”, passionately promoted Tongluo Township’s taro. Furthermore, in the presence of Magistrate Chung Tung-chin, County Councilor Yu Wen-zhong, the President of Township Council Lin Jiu-xi, Vice President Lai Bi-yun, and Chen Shu-yi, the Director of the Agriculture Department, Miaoli County Government, they jointly launched the event. The public from all over Taiwan is warmly invited to participate in the event, taste delicious taro-based dishes, and behold the beauty of the Chrysanthemum floral sea.

Magistrate Chung Tung-chin stated that the quality of taro produced in Tongluo Township is outstanding and he hopes that the Ministry of Agriculture can provide subsidies for the installation of cold chain equipment, allowing agricultural products to be frozen for storage without the immediate need for sale. This would enable taro to be sold at a better price, leading to a bumper harvest for local farmers. Tea products are also facing the challenge of having an inadequate number of sales platforms. The Miaoli County Government will also collaborate with the Agriculture and Food Agency to establish more sales platforms and broaden distribution channels as well. Miaoli County Government will also cooperate with the Agriculture and Food Agency, managing to establish more sales platforms and expanding sales channels as well. This will not only guarantee the food safety of agricultural products, enabling consumers to purchase with confidence but also elevate Miaoli County’s agricultural products to become prominent agricultural products in Taiwan.

On the day of the event, the Township Office will arrange 2 shuttle buses, departing from Tongluo Railway Station and offering tours of local sightseeing spots and the Chrysanthemum floral sea. In the meantime, to promote local tourist attractions, 2 one-day tour bus services are also available for NT$699, allowing tourists to experience the rustic charm of Tongluo Township. Registration is open now and seats are limited on a first-come, first-served basis.

At Zhongping Assembly House, a stage-clearing game has been planned. Participants who clear 5 stages will receive a bowl of taro sago and a food coupon worth NT$100. The food coupon can be used at the Farmer's Market to redeem a variety of taro agricultural products provided by the Production and Marketing Group of Tonglou Farmer’s Association, as well as local farmers. After enjoying the taro sago, you can enter a lucky draw by using the sticker on the bowl. Prizes include pure gold jewelry, 925 silver jewelry, windmill bubble wands, etc.

Furthermore, there’s a taro-picking experience activity where tourists can step into the taro fields to pick their own taro and gain an appreciation for the hard work of taro farmers. You’re welcome to take the taro you’ve picked back home. Additionally, there’s a Taro Ball DIY session for tourists to learn how to make taro balls.
