In response to the public’s concerns about the safety of imported eggs, the Miaoli County Government launched the "Reinforcing the Inspection of Eggs Sold on the Market" project in September 13 to protect the health of local residents. It strictly inspects and checks the labeling, expiration date, storage conditions, place of origin, and appearance of eggs to ensure that the labeling and the quality of fresh eggs comply with the regulations of the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation.

In terms of the source and control of production, there are no merchants, liquid egg processing, nor egg washing factories in Miaoli County; eggs are imported from the National Animal Industry Foundation for egg washing, processing, or OEM. In September 2022, the Miaoli County Public Health Bureau guided and inspected six large food factories and processing manufacturers, as well as seven egg products. It has also inspected 16 catering and baking businesses and 20 egg products, and monitored three egg resellers for full inspection of the place of origin, expiration date, and labeling to facilitate tracing of towards upstream manufacturers.

In terms of sales channels, inspections in hypermarkets, supermarkets, convenience stores, traditional markets, and grocery stores is conducted to trace the source of imported eggs. By September 2022, 110 inspected packs of eggs of 39 businesses in sales channels were all domestically produced. All products inspected complied with regulatory requirements, and no non-compliant eggs were sold or used. The inspections continued until the end of December. Pastry industry vocational unions and catering-related unions have also been requested to inform their members to enhance self-management and inspect the source of eggs to ensure that eggs are consumed prior to the expiration date so the public can purchase and enjoy products safely. Furthermore, we actively cooperate with programs implemented by the Food and Drug Administration to test eggs randomly to monitor animal drug residues; the aim is 80 domestic cases per month. In September, five fresh egg packets were tested. The results will be publicly announced once released.

Magistrate Chung Tung-chin stated that the inspections confirmed that eggs currently sold on the market are all domestically produced, and the results comply with regulatory requirements; no non-compliant eggs were found to have been sold or used. The Miaoli County Public Health Bureau also stated that eggs are an indispensable ingredient for daily meals. When purchasing eggs, consumers should remember to check the appearance of eggs and the expiration date. By following these two steps, everyone can enjoy eggs safely.
