The Tourism Bureau, MOTC, has cooperated with the Miaoli County Government to create the new brand "Young Lake Resort" at the Mingde Reservoir. The first-wave event, "Watch Movies at the Lake and Enjoy the Symphony Resonance", is being held with a screening of the movie "The Dull-ice Flower" on August 26 and 27 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Haitang Island, where the film is set, next to the Mingde Reservoir. An orchestra will also play a symphony on Rixin Island on Saturday, September 2, and Sunday, September 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m, the first of many wonderful events over two consecutive weekends. With a nostalgic atmosphere and lively music, all visitors will recall the brilliant transformation of the Mingde Reservoir Scenic Spot into a leisure and recreational scenic area with land, sea, and air facilities for years to come.
"The Dull-ice Flower was released in 1989, and was filmed on the lakeside of the Mingde Reservoir and Huang Cluster House. It is a real tearjerker. The Miaoli County Government, to enable to audience to reminiscence, has arranged a special screening of the movie at the location on which it is set next to Haitang Island on August 26, the 34th anniversary of the movie's release. On the premiere day, Zeng Shu-qin, the original singer of the theme song, was invited to perform the song. Li Shu-zhen, who played the important role of Gu Cha-mei, was also invited as a guest to the opening ceremony of the classic movie. On the afternoons of August 26 and 27, the tour of the Mingde Reservoir will be held for visitors to see the filming location and learn about the area surrounding the Mingde Reservoir. Registration is required prior to the event; please refer to the official website for registration details. "The Dull-ice Flower" will be shown at the filming location for two nights. Visitors can enjoy the movie while reminiscing about the movie created on the shore of Mingde Lake. The organizer is preparing light refreshments for the audience as well. From 5:30 pm on the event day, those who check in on social media may help themselves to the refreshments, subject to availability.
On Saturday, September 2, and Sunday, September 3, a symphony concert will be held on Rixin Island. The high-quality local shops in Touwu Township and surrounding towns are also invited to sell specialty products in the market for tourists to enjoy. Bands will also hold performances so visitors can enjoy a leisurely atmosphere amid live music for two consecutive days. Tourists can enter the event venue and the island for free on these two days.
The Miaoli County Government has been proactively promoting the revitalization and transformation of old scenic attractions around the Mingde Reservoir in recent years, and is continuing to promote the Minghu Waterfront Sightseeing and Recreation Corridor Environment Renovation Plan. Through the establishment of the "Young Lake" brand, revitalizing the Minghu Wharf area and Haitang Island, and holding various events to attract crowds, tourism and local development around the Mingde Reservoir area is being developed into a new location with multiple recreational facilities.
