Media Affairs Center: 559828

Our famous nationwide and Top 10 classic fruits, Dahu strawberries, are now well grown. The first harvesting phase of these shiny rubies has now commenced. Magistrate Hsu Yao-chang, Township Mayor Hu Niang-mei, and Chief Executive Officer of the Dahu Farmers’ Association Xu Qing-zhi hosted the opening ceremony on December 1 and announced the beginning of the 12-days’ activities of Strawberry Season, during which visitors can enjoy 12% off Dahu Wineland Resort products. Three couples of the different ages were invited on the stage to compare the different stages of relationships to strawberries, which best interpret the sweet and sour taste of love.

This morning, the opening ceremony was held at Dahu Strawberry Farm on Romantic Route 3. Magistrate Hsu Yao-chang, wife of Legislator Xu Zhi-rong, Wang Hui-zhen, Dahu Township Mayor Hu Niang-mei, Chief Executive Officer of the Dahu Farmers’ Association Xu Qing-zhi, Deputy Director of the Agriculture Department, Chen Shu-yi, and representatives from the Agriculture and Food Agency and the agricultural research and extension stations unveiled the colored ball to announce the beginning of Strawberry Season. After tasting the sweet and sour strawberry juice, the guests all felt like “falling in love”!

Magistrate Hsu Yao-chang announced the start of the strawberry harvesting season. There are about 600 hectares of strawberry fields nationwide, and Dahu accounts for 450 hectares – the largest crop area. Many strawberry farmers started to grow strawberries in the 40s and have accumulated abundant experience and skillful techniques to grow great fruits. Dahu enjoys being known as the “Strawberry Kingdom” producing one of the “Top 10 classic fruits” thanks to local farmers’ careful cultivation and professional techniques developed over the years. In recent years, a raised bed has been used so that tourists can pick fruit easily while retaining adherence to sanitation and health requirements. It is hoped that the administrative and agricultural units will market strawberries well to increase farmers’ profits.

Hsu Yao-chang said Strawberry Season will run until next April or May. When visitors experience Romantic Route 3 in the autumn and winter, they can also experience the fun of picking strawberries in Dahu. Visitors are also welcome to take a hot spring bath in Taian. A hot spring bath is also known as "static exercise" which helps invigorate the body, relieve pressure, release toxins and feel cleansed. It is definitely a worthwhile trip to taste the local Hakka delicacies and purchase a variety of strawberry and citrus fruit souvenirs. Dahu Township Mayor Hu Niang-mei also took the opportunity to recommend local tourist attractions such as the old temples, old trails, old streets, Manapan Mountain, and the Ginger Garden, shouting the slogan to the crowds “Come to Dahu, Enjoy Happiness!”

Chief Executive Officer of the Dahu Farmers’ Association Xu Qing-zhi said Aromas account for 80% of strawberry variations in Dahu and Taian. Other variations including Jiuxiang, Meiji, Meifeng, Fengxiang, and 2nd-generation Lianxiang. Due to less rain and higher temperatures, the harvesting season of the first phase has started two weeks early. The fruit is slightly smaller and sweetness is less by 1 or 2 degrees, however, still of great quality. He stressed that there will surely be an abundant harvest of strawberries this year. The quality is also better than the previous year. We welcome all tourists to experience the fun of picking fruit, and Dahu Wineland Resort is offering a special discount on related products from December 1 to 12.

Due to heavy traffic during Strawberry Season, Director of Dahu Precinct of Miaoli County Police Bureau, Liao Zhi-ming, also led officers in the area to promote the QR Code that allows users to see the current traffic conditions and information on alternative routes to manage traffic more effectively.
