Jiasheng Community of Miaoli City has actively promoted Hakka culture and language heritage. With the strong support of the Taiwan Hakka General Chamber of Commerce, Miaoli County Government, and the Miaoli City Government, they have meticulously planned and designed the "HAKKA Food and Fun Together" event. The exciting program took place in the morning of the 30th at Jiasheng and Jiaxin Community Activity Center, and citizens were invited to experience the most authentic and interesting Hakka cultural charm. Deputy Magistrate Chiu Li-li, a native of Fujian, delivered a speech in Hakka to echo theme of the event, and she praised the event for not only providing food and entertainment but also allowing everyone to rediscover Hakka culture integrated into daily life.

The "HAKKA Food and Fun Together" event was organized by Jiasheng Community in Miaoli City, with guidance and support from the Taiwan Hakka General Chamber of Commerce of the County Government, and the City Government. The Taiwan Hakka General Chamber of Commerce was the main funding sponsor for the event, with President Yeh Chun-jung leading his team on the project. As Yeh highlighted, the Taiwan Hakka General Chamber of Commerce is the organization that allies Taiwanese Hakka businesses worldwide, and aims to establish an information-sharing platform to create Hakka business opportunities, develop the Hakka economy, and promote Hakka culture.

"Shi Gao" in Hakka means "having both food and fun together." The event combines Hakka cuisine, traditional children's games, promotion of the Hakka language, and cultural experiences to encourage children and adults alike to rediscover the richness of Hakka culture in an enjoyable atmosphere. The event was kicked off with a performance of two famous Hakka songs by the Miaoli City Hakka Children's Choir. The venue also featured Hakka-style song and dance performances by community groups and associations and kindergarten children were invited to participate in the performances. The purpose of these activities was to encourage children to immerse themselves in Hakka language and culture from a young age, learn about Hakka in a fun-filled environment, and showcase the vitality of Hakka cultural heritage passed down through generations.

The Hakka food stalls on-site offered a wide variety of dishes, while the nostalgic children's games included bamboo chopstick gun shooting, a favorite among rural children years ago, and "Bip-Bo-Zai," evoking strong childhood memories and encouraging visitors to relive the simple yet lively life of early Hakka villages. The first-come, first-served traditional experience of pounding glutinous rice cakes and clearing Hakka cultural obstacles games were also very popular among visitors. Around noon, the organizer invited the Jiasheng Community Development Association, the champion of the Bantiao (flat rice noodle) Festival of Miaoli City two years ago, to prepare 800 servings of authentic and delicious Hakka flat rice noodles for people to taste for free, triggering another wave of enthusiasm for Hakka food culture.

Mayor Yu Wen-chung stated that “eating together" is aimed to bring delicious food and fun to the community. The event not only showcased authentic and distinctive Hakka cuisine, but also featured fun-filled games for children, making it the perfect occasion for families to experience the charm of Hakka culture together. Locals did not have to travel far to enjoy a pleasant trip and leave with wonderful memories.

Deputy Magistrate Chiu Li-li expressed her fondness for the phrase "eating together," as the most precious aspect of Hakka culture is never simply a dish, a phrase, or an event, but the willingness of people to sit down, eat, talk, and strengthen their bonds regardless of how time change. This is why Hakka people often say "come and chat when you have time"; such a simple phrase symbolizes deep human and interpersonal connections. "Eating together" means food, fun, and culture, and children can connect with Hakka culture through play and children’s games, while elders can reminisce about the past through familiar flavors. The more people who engage in this, the more the culture can be passed down from generation to generation.

Chiu Li-li stated that Miaoli is a major Hakka county, but Hakka culture cannot exist simply in events or books. A truly vibrant culture is one where people speak Hakka at the market, speak their mother tongue at home, and maintain the Hakka spirit of diligence, resilience, and warmth in daily interactions. Under the leadership of Magistrate Chung Tung-chin, the county government team will continue to work with communities, schools, township offices, and NGOs to cultivate a strong Hakka cultural foundation and create a beautiful Hakka Miaoli.
