The National Games for People with Disabilities 2026 is scheduled to be held in New Taipei City from May 23 to 26. The Miaoli County team consists of 84 athletes participating in 10 events. On May 22, Deputy Magistrate Lai Hsiang-ling presented the team with the flag and participation funds at the county government hall, and athletes received cooling wipes from the Magistrate's wife, Chan Mei-chi. She encouraged all participants to strive in all events as they overcome physical barriers, and break the record of 40 medals set in the previous Games.

Peng Te-chun, Deputy Director of the Education Department of the Miaoli County Government, stated that the Miaoli County team won a total of 40 medals (13 gold, 15 silver, and 12 bronze) at the 2024 National Games for People with Disabilities. This year, the team of 84 athletes are participating in 10 events: track and field, badminton, bowling, table tennis, swimming, basketball, Special Olympic badminton, Special Olympic bowling, Special Olympic bocce, and Special Olympic roller skating.

Track and field athletes Fu Mei-hui, Wu Tsai-lien, and Chen Wen-yi, and badminton player Chiu Hui-chun are all silver medalists from the previous Games. They are aiming to further improve this year and strive to challenge for gold. Meanwhile, athletes from the National Miaoli Special Education School, Toufen Junior High School, and other young people are participating in Special Olympics events such as roller skating, bocce, and bowling. Athletes Wen Chia-cheng, Ku Yu-hsuan, Peng Wen-hsuan, Hsieh Chia-wei, Li Yi-cheng, and Tseng Chi-en are gold medalists from the previous Games, and are striving to defend their titles.

This morning, Deputy Magistrate Lai Hsiang-ling, accompanied by Peng Te-chung, Deputy Director of the Education Department, Lin Chih-hao, Assistant to the Chairman of the County Sports Association, Li Wen-bin, and several principals presented the team flag to athlete representative Kuan Yu-wen. Participation funds were also handed out by Fu Meu-hui, a track and field athlete, on behalf of the team. Morale was high as the flags fluttered during the event. The county magistrate's wife, Chan Mei-chi, thoughtfully prepared cooling and soft wet wipes blessed by Mazu for the athletes, with Lai Hsiang-ling presenting them to them. The name "cool wet wipes" is synonymous with "winning the championship." She also wished the team a safe journey on behalf of Magistrate Chung Tung-chin.

As noted by Deputy Magistrate Lai Hsiang-ling, she believes that "by challenging limits, Miaoli is truly amazing.” She also stated that although the upcoming Games for People with Disabilities involve challenging events, each athlete showcases their talent in their respective fields, overcoming physical obstacles and bringing glory home to Miaoli. This is something truly commendable and to be proud of. She expressed gratitude to the Department of Sports and Health Sciences at the National Taiwan University of Sport for their continued cooperation in protecting the health of athletes and coaches so they can perform at their best.

Peng Te-chung, Deputy Director of the Education Department, noted that the county government will continue to promote the Corporate Adoption Program for Outstanding Sports Teams to encourage more businesses to invest resources in cultivating excellent sporting talent and gradually optimizing training environments. Furthermore, through the Retention Training and Rooting Program outstanding athletes are encouraged to stay and develop their careers in the county, building a three-tier training system for outstanding sporting talent.
