On the morning of January 1, the Miaoli County Government returned—after a three-year hiatus—to the plaza in front of the First County Government Office Building to hold the 2026 Miaoli County New Year’s Day Flag-Raising Ceremony. Centered on the theme of “A Prosperous Year of the Horse, A Radiant Vision of Miaoli,” the ceremony symbolized the county government’s continued momentum in the New Year and the launch of a renewed vision for the future. County Magistrate Chung Tung-Chin led the county government team and residents in the ceremony where everyone sang the national anthem as the flag was raised in a dignified and moving atmosphere.

Another highlight of this year’s ceremony was the grand prize raffle, the most extensive in the event’s history. Prizes included an iPhone 17 (256GB), large smart televisions, cordless vacuum cleaners, smart air fryers, tablet computers, and more—totaling 15 major prizes and 111 raffle items. Limited quantities of national-flag caps, handheld flags, and raffle tickets were distributed on site, allowing residents to share in the joy and good fortune of the New Year.

Attendees included County Magistrate Chung Tung-Chin, his spouse Chen Mei-Chi, former County Magistrate Liu Cheng-Hung, Legislators Chen Chao-Ming and Chiu Chen-Chun, County Council Speaker Lee Wen-Pin, Deputy Speaker Chang Shu-Fen, and numerous county councilors, township mayors, county government officials, representatives of all levels, and members of business associations. Together with local residents, they sang the national and flag anthems, watching as the national flag rose and fluttered in the sea breeze in a scene that was both solemn and spirited. Residents waved flags and exchanged New Year’s greetings, creating a festive atmosphere. The excitement peaked when the County Magistrate drew the two lucky winners of iPhone 17 smartphones, followed by an additional bonus draw conducted by Secretary-General Chen Pin-Shan, who awarded two more iPhone 17 devices—bringing the atmosphere at the venue to an enthusiastic climax.

County Magistrate Chung stated that the flag-raising ceremony not only marks the beginning of a new year, but symbolizes the county government and residents standing side by side in pursuit of a more prosperous future. He emphasized that over the past three years, the county government has actively advanced public infrastructure, tourism development, social welfare services, and transportation improvements, with tangible progress every day across Miaoli.

Chung noted that the government exists not for power, but for responsibility. Looking ahead, the county government will continue to promote comprehensive policies in transportation development, education enhancement, long-term care services, and tourism marketing, while fully advancing the Taoyuan–Hsinchu–Miaoli Greater Silicon Valley Initiative to create new technological and industrial development opportunities, ensuring that the “Radiant Vision of Miaoli” becomes a reality for every resident.

He further emphasized that the county government will actively seek central government resources to improve the water and power supply, upgrade medical facilities, expand educational resources, and develop the university-town concept—making Miaoli not only a livable county, but an attractive destination for living, working, and traveling.

In his closing remarks, County Magistrate Chung extended his best wishes on behalf of the county government team, wishing all residents a Happy New Year, good health, and peace – “Miaoli’s future belongs to all of us. Together, let us build a happy Miaoli.”
