Miaoli County Government Press Release: 2021/9/5
The Farmers’ Association of Dahu Township, Miaoli County held an event in front of the Dahu Wine Resort on the morning of September 5th, 2021 to promote grafted pears in the Dahu area. Miaoli County Magistrate Hsu, Yao-chang, County Council Speaker Chung, Tung-chin, and Township Mayor Hu, Niang-mei attended the event to show their support.
Dahu Township is famous nationwide for planting strawberries. Grafted pears are also one of the main economic crops cultivated in the Township. The areas for producing grafted pears are about 350 hectares and are mostly located in Hsinkai Village, Lilin Village, Wurong Village and Yihe Village. Various types of pears are grown with different tastes, such as Autumn Pear, Feng-shui Fear, Hsin-hsing Pear, and Ganlu Pear. The production season is from mid-June to the end of September. Grown and managed carefully by farmers in favorable climate conditions with good water quality and temperatures, these sweet and juicy pears look and taste great. The Dahu Premium Pear, the self-owned brand of Dahu Township, launched in 2013 and has received many compliments by consumers.
Magistrate Hsu stated that this is a challenging year for grafted pears which were grown during a drought at the beginning of the year, heavy rain in May and June, and then the Covid-19 epidemic. However, they still taste juicy and delicious after being carefully cultivated by farmers. It is hoped that the number of sales for farmers will increase thanks to this event. Hsu mentioned in particular the huge Ganlu Pear, which is as large as a volleyball and is very moist, fleshy, and crispy; an excellent gift for people over the Mid-Autumn Festival.
In addition to the pear smoothies and fresh pears provided for free tasting in this event, guests can also enjoy prized quizzes, Hakka song performances, and styling balloon performances. The organizer is strictly abiding by epidemic prevention regulations and is taking names and body temperatures of all attendees to protect everyone's health.
